help Valencia from Oxford
Starting on the morning of 29 October 2024, a cold drop brought drastic flash flooding to southern and south-eastern Spain, primarily in the Valencia region. By 10.30pm emergency services were rescuing people from their cars during what what to become one of Spain's worst floods in history.
When given opportunity to climb in the Spain, you may have considered visiting Chulilla for its glorious views and Sport Climbing in the gorge, or checking out 'the most indoorsy outdoor climbing' in Albarracin, both of which are accessed most easily (if you're not lucky enough to be livin' the dirtbaglyf 24/7) via Valencia Airport, so the floods have and will continue to have a massive impact on the environment and economy of some of the places we love to climb.
While efforts are still being made to save lives and homes there are some wonderful organisations of people trying to raise money to assist with regeneration.
One of these groups is: HELP VALENCIA FROM OXFORD and on December 1st 2024 they will be hosting an open auction at OXFORD WINE CELLAR.
I'll be in attendance, selling a piece to help raise funds and I'd love you to get involved! Check out their INSTAGRAM page to see what else is up for grabs and get more information on how to donate.
Many thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to seeing you

BACK TO BROOKES!
16TH AUGUST 2024
After an incredibly successful event in 2021, where we invited young people for a two hour Top-Rope and Bouldering session with Adidas Terrex, I am thrilled to announce our newest climbing initiative.
Whist it is important to run exciting, one-off opportunities for children to experience the joys of climbing, I often wonder how fair it is, to give such a wonderful gift and then take it away again.
The reality is, the chances are slim that any of the children will get to participate in the sport again until they are at least 16, or can find a suitable adult to pay and accompany them on further climbing trips.
To try and combat this issue, we have set up something that will last a little longer, and hopefully give those who enjoyed climbing so much they just HAVE to go again, a place to go!
Brookes has generously donated 6 months worth of fully instructed, drop-in sessions with all equipment rent included!
Project One will be providing transport to/from the facility, and moral support during the sessions, for young people from BlackBird Leys and the wider East Oxford Area.
We hope that by providing consistent and free access to qualified, insured and DBS checked instructors, we will be able to create a wonderful pathway with the help of proffesional knowledge and experience, into careers within climbing and the outdoor/extreme sports industries.
We will be sharing blogs with updates from the events so please keep an eye on the website/instagram account for new posts!
Thank you again to Brookes for giving us such an incredible opportunity to positively impact the lives of some very important people.
